Here are some simple tips everyone can use to be a little more earth friendly!

Buy from a local farmer's market. Not only do small scale farms use their land more efficiently, there is usually less pesticides and harsh chemicals used.  Since the transportation of crops is minimal, there is less fuel used in getting the freshest produce to the consumer.  Make your carbon footprint even smaller by bringing your own bags.

Shower smarter!  The average shower head flows at a rate of 2.5 gallons per minute.  That comes to a whopping 9000 gallons annually for a 10 minute shower every day.  You can reduce your flow while still enjoying your shower by looking for a replacement shower head that is EPA approved with the WaterSense seal of approval.

When dining at home always use washable plates and siverware and cloth napkins.  Not only will you not be contributing to a landfill with diposable paper products you will have a much nicer dining experience.

Turn off all lights and electronics when not in use.  Unplug your cell phone charger from the wall when you are done charging your phone.  Power strips are a great way to shut down the electricty to multiple items with one flip of the switch.  Even when powered down many devices still draw unneeded power from outlets.

No one could be expected to start the day with a good cup of coffee.  Just make sure the coffee you are filling your cup with is grown, harvested and produced in a manner that is environmentaly responsible and improves the communities of where coffee is grown.  Check out http://www.fairtradeusa.org/ to learn how you can make the best coffee choice.
